Moncks Corner — Jim Campbell and Gene Howard topped a field of 18 boats to win the kickoff event of the Cooper River Bassmasters Winter Open Series, Nov. 25, 2017. The team netted a five fish limit, tipping the scales with 10.73 lbs. for the victory.
The margin of victory was razor-thin with less than a pound separating the top five teams. It was indicative of the generally tough fishing conditions. On a bright and sunny day that was perhaps better suited for walking the dogs or a home project, Campbell and Howard cranked their way to the win and earned $288 for their victory.
Mark Hodge Jr. landed the big bass of the day, a solid 5.64 lb. catch that paid out $180.
The next event in the series is December 16th at Cypress Gardens, with a $50 per team entry fee.
